Review - My husband and I went to Illuzion on the recommendation of a friend and thought it excellent. He had a chef's special of 9 different pieces of nigri and I had the spicy roll medley, which is spicy tuna, salmon and yellow tail. The rolls had some kick but not a lot, and I still used wasabi in my soy sauce, so would be fine for someone who doesn't like his sushi burning hot. The husband said all of his nigiri was very fresh, and some of the pieces had interesting garnishes, such as mango and green bell pepper. The atmosphere at Illuzion is very hip Asian, all black stone and space-age chairs, but not off-putting (surprisingly). My husband was in business casual and I was wearing a t-shirt and weekend pants, and neither of us felt under or over-dressed. The service was excellent and our food arrived very quickly. I would definitely eat here again and there are several cheaper sushi places closer to where we live.

Review - It is a pretty cozy place, not too noisy. Prompt seating and the service was attentive, but not overbearing. The sashimi was pretty fresh and the menu was fairly creative. It is hard to find good Japanese food in the area and they have done a good job of delivering it. It can be kind of breezy by the door. The decor is fine. Nothing extra ordinary, but definitely not lame like someone alluded to in a previous posting. Thumbs up.

Review - The a la carte sushi was the freshest that I've had in Hoboken. Was somewhat better than Sushi House and miles better than Robongi .The rolls were good but not amazing. Rolls were fresh but a little bland. I would however recommend the actual sushi to anyone, very impressive.

Review - One of the best restaurants in Hoboken. The Cooked dishes were tender and delicious and their sushi was so so fresh, much better than Robongi. This place is comparable to Nobu. Their Miso Cod and chiliean Sea Bass is to die for. Definitely worth checking out.

Review - I love this place. Me and my boyfriend went on a sushi frenzy and tried almost every single sushi place in Hoboken. This one blew our minds. Needless to say, we have discontinued our search to find the best sushi in town. We go back every Friday!

The atmosphere is hip and funky (if you like that sorta thing) and the food is great. We both highly recommend the rock shrimp as an appetizer. Also, try wheels and helter skelter specialty sushi rolls. Just fabulous!!

Review - While the decor is on the minimalist side, it is very comfy in there, my friend called it very ying-yang
the food at illuzion is excellent, the sushi chefs are definetly on top of their game.
if you get a chance, try the no. 337, sunset boulevard and the alligator. the mix of flavors of fresh friut, veggies and very very fresh fish.
the service here is wonder, didn't catch the name of our server, but he was the sweetest guy with a great sense of humor.

Review -
Try the Angry Dragon Roll. It's great!

I may be overly-excited, but Illuzion has certainly proved to be among the best Japanese dining experiences one will have. Akamiso soup is definitely not as salty as all other bowls served in Hoboken. And the salmon did not taste like rubber, at all. It was soft and melt-in-your-mouth delicious!

Tom, our waiter, was sweet and friendly. He will be asked about time and time, again.

Alas, the unfortunate news comes. My guest and I tried the Tempura Ice-cream dessert and found the outer a little too thick! Thin out the shell a bit, please!

Thanks for a divine two-hours, Illuzion. I cannot wait to visit on my birthday evening with a large group of friends!

Review - Not the best sushi in Hoboken, but one of the best. The non-sushi items were very good, and beautifully presented. Atmosphere was very cool and hip with glass tiles, etc., but was a little on the cold side.

definitely worth checking out.

Review - Illuzion is an all around great choice! The staff is very friendly and accomodating, prices reasonable, and the place is cute! Most recently we were a group of six and had a variety of dishes. Tempura appetizers were crunchy (huge shrimp!) and delicious, shrimp and scallop with lemongrass was refreshing, the Miso Black Cod was tasty, and the Spicy Naughty Girl roll and Dragon were both fresh and beautifully plated. My fave for sushi.

Review - I go to Illuzion every Sunday and I'm crazy about the Spicy Bad Girl roll. Amy is a great hostess and I always feel welcomed! I have eaten in other sushi restaurants but I always come back to Illuzion. I rave about it all the time and most of my friends have gone to Illuzion and gave them a thumbs up! Keep it up!

Review - My husband and I consider ourselves sushi-snobs. We eat sushi (sashimi actually) at least once a week. We've tried every place in Hoboken and this place is surely the best. To be honest, we even think it beats most places in the city. The fish is very fresh and in the perfect thickness. We had the miso cod as an appetizer our first time there, and now get it every time. I even crave it! The rolls are very creative, a good size and super yummy. Surprisingly, one evening they brought out a dessert with fried bananas (on the house), which was fantastic. The service is very attentative, from the moment you walk in, until you leave. They surely try to make you have a pleasurable experience long after they've been newly opened. We also appreciate the design and layout of the space. Too many japanese restaurants either under do it or over do it... they just do it right.

Review - I agree with the poster below, it is comparable to Nobu, my husband visitied Nobu in london & he said Illuzion won hands down. By far the best sushi in hoboken - don't even bother with anywhere else & I have been pressed to find a better place in manhattan. Illuzion rocks!! Helter skelter is my favorite special roll. I only gave the decor a 3- because it is sometimes cold in there.

Review - I gave this place two chances, because of the reviews posted here. Although it may be presented very nicely, I found both the sushi and prepared dishes to be just plain fair. The sushi was very cold and tough.. I'm used to tender room temperature sushi. The beef negamaki was tasteless, we had to douse it in soy sauce. The atmosphere is very nice though, as is the service, but the food leaves something to be desired.

Review - My cousins and I went to Illuzion's for my birthday this past weekend and had a great experience. The menue was interesting and the Food was great. The portions were large and their signature fried shrimp appitizer was excellent. We enjoyed the atmosphere and our server Philip was the best. It was the kind of place that get's to know you by name and welcomes you in! The couple at the table next to us had been there 3 times last week. Needless to say I'll be going back soon. FYI the prices were very reasonable!

Review - Not overly impressed with the sushi here. Mediocre at best, although my friend thought more highly of it. Thought the prices were a bit steep (there is a minimum). The decor is ok but seems like they're really trying hard to be trendy and it doesn't come off as a very warm, comfortable place.

Review - The decor of this new trendy sushi house is an omage to nature: wood and stone walls, faux fire background, metal lighting...perhaps more attention should be paid to the less than spectacular sushi. The sushi, although presented ornately, was bland to say the most. The special rolls on the menu is a vain attempt to vary from other sushi restaurants in town, however the rolls are larger than a mouthful and often fall apart. The wasabi and ginger had to be requested and was not fresh.

Review - This place has by far the best japanese food in Hoboken. The restaurant's decor gives a very relaxing feeling and the chef is a food artist. I ordered the cod and there were no words for it. It melted in my mouth and tasted very buttery. I can't get enough of this restaurant.

Review - Stopped by before Christmas as a treat with some friends... We hit before it was actually dinner time so the service was beyond comparison. It was fabulous... some of the best Sushi to be had without going to the city. Some of the best seaweed salad I've ever tasted, and the banana tempura was to die for... The decor is wonderfully modern leading the whole restaurant to have a cool asian fusion look.
